Update 18th December - Ebano has now been in foster for very nearly a year! As many will know, he did briefly look as if he had found his forever home, but unfortunately, due to an incident that happened involving the 2 resident dogs (not Ebano) on a walk, it seemed to become apparent that a 3rd dog was not going to be manageable for the family. Ebs had to return to the much busier city environment to his foster, but he settled back in remarkably well, giving huge cuddles to his foster mum and dad and happy to see foster sibling Ripley again. Ebs and his foster mum have been working with Busy Bee Training to have a look at the things that trigger him to be reactive - traffic is the main one, but when he becomes "heightened" he is also then reactive to other dogs, bikes, scooters, etc. Our thinking now, with lots of input from his trainer who has also discussed him with colleagues, is that he will actually do much better without having the "normal" 2 long walks a day that we often expect to do. Ebs is nearly 11 and we know he's had a hard life, so he really doesn't need to be taken out for big long walks in all weathers and having to face scary traffic twice a day. So we have shortened his walks to a couple of very short ones at quiet times, supplemented by a couple of play sessions in the garden (and he also appreciates a big play in the house). He does love a run around and a sniff at a quiet run free field when he has the opportunity too. The most important thing to Ebs is that he gets plenty of love and cuddles and a human who is happy to indulge in his mad 5 minutes zooming round the room throwing his toys in the air. Lets keep sharing this lovely old lad in the hope we find his soul mate soon. Ebano, aka Ebony, Ebs, Ebeneezer the Skinny Geezer, has a sad tale to tell. This lovely older galgo was homed by us back in 2018. On Hogmanay, I got a call from the SSPCA to say Ebs had been seized, along with his greyhound brother, Rocky, for welfare reasons. I went immediately and collected both dogs - Rocky was signed over to PINS and has been homed with his foster mum now. Both boys were in a very poor state, but are recovering well now. Ebs has put on weight, nails are all clipped and has had a dental to sort out his poor mouth. He is now ready to look for his forever home. Ebs is 9 but still a very happy, active boy who loves his walks. He currently lives with PINS dog Ripley and they get on fine. Ebs can be vocal and reactive to other dogs when out on lead, so ideally someone who will keep working with him on this. He was also reactive to many other things like cars, but his fosterer has been doing great work at deconditioning him, so he can now happily walk through the town without getting stressed. He's a clever lad who is now thriving so deserves the very best human to give him his permanent retirement home.
